Jailer Box Office Collection: Rajinikanth's 2023 Blockbuster Lifetime Total, Day-Wise Numbers and Records

By BollyShowbiz Desk • October 24, 2026 • Jailer, Rajinikanth, Box Office

Three years after it released, Jailer is back in the box office conversation — and for a simple reason. Its sequel, Jailer 2, released on October 15, 2026, and is now chasing the original film's lifetime total. So let us settle the first question properly: how much did Rajinikanth's Jailer actually earn? The short answer is over Rs 600 crore worldwide. The honest answer is that trade sources do not agree on one exact number, so this article gives you the figures source by source, with net and gross kept separate, instead of pretending there is one clean total.

The lifetime total, honestly: one film, several numbers

This is the part most box office articles get wrong by picking one number and hiding the rest. Here are the lifetime worldwide gross figures for Jailer from the trackers that reported them, kept separate so you can see the range:

SourceWorldwide grossBreak-up as reported
SacnilkRs 604.50 croreIndia gross Rs 408.50 crore, overseas Rs 196 crore (estimated)
KoimoiRs 607.28 croreWorldwide gross
TamilBoxOfficeRs 617 croreTamil Nadu 196, Andhra-Telangana 84, Karnataka 66, Kerala 58, rest of India 16, overseas 198 (all in crores)
TrackTollywood (closing)Rs 624 croreIndia gross 428, overseas 196 (in crores)
OnlyKollywoodAround Rs 600 croreApproximate worldwide figure

So the fair way to say it is this: Jailer earned between Rs 604 crore and Rs 624 crore worldwide depending on the tracker, with Sacnilk's Rs 604.50 crore the most commonly quoted figure. The gap comes from how different trackers count overseas territories and late-run collections, not from anyone inventing numbers. Anyone giving you a single figure to two decimal places without naming a source is hiding that range from you.

On the India side, the numbers are cleaner. Sacnilk's lifetime India net is Rs 348.55 crore, and its India gross is Rs 408.50 crore. Net is what remains after entertainment tax; gross is the full ticket value. That is why you will see both numbers for the same film, and both are correct — they just measure different things.

Day-wise: how Jailer got there

Jailer did not crawl to Rs 600 crore. It exploded out of the gate and then held on week after week. The day-wise run, as reported by Sacnilk and Bollywood Hungama, looked like this:

WindowFigure as reported
Day 1 worldwide grossRs 96.50 crore (Sacnilk; Bollywood Hungama's 4-day piece puts day 1 at Rs 95.78 crore)
Day 1 IndiaRs 56.50 crore gross / Rs 48.35 crore net
First 4 days worldwide grossRs 302.89 crore (95.78 + 56.24 + 68.51 + 82.36, as per Bollywood Hungama)
Extended 8-day week worldwide grossRs 434 crore (Sacnilk, including Rs 277 crore domestic)
Week 1 India netRs 235.85 crore
Weeks 2 to 6 India net62.95 / 29.75 / 13.01 / 3.77 / 1.92 crore

Two milestones from that run are worth remembering. Jailer crossed Rs 300 crore worldwide in just 4 days, as Bollywood Hungama reported at the time. And it became only the second Tamil film ever to cross Rs 500 crore worldwide, after Rajinikanth's own 2.0, as per Sacnilk. Sacnilk also puts the film's footfalls at around 2.65 crore tickets sold — a number that tells you how many people actually walked in, not just how much money came back.

Why Jailer is trending again: Jailer 2 is chasing its record

Here is why a 2023 film's collection is in the news in October 2026. Jailer 2 released on October 15, 2026, and its opening was the biggest ever for a Tamil film. TrackTollywood puts its 4-day opening weekend at Rs 418 crore worldwide, with India gross of Rs 234.75 crore and overseas of Rs 183.25 crore. Pinkvilla's India day-wise for the first weekend reads Rs 67.25 crore on Thursday, Rs 42.50 crore on Friday, Rs 52.50 crore on Saturday and Rs 61.75 crore on Sunday — a total of around Rs 224 crore India gross for the weekend, with Tamil Nadu alone contributing around Rs 80 crore.

By day 5, Koimoi put Jailer 2's worldwide gross at Rs 478.86 crore, taking the franchise combined total past Rs 1,000 crore (Rs 607.28 crore for the first film plus Rs 478.86 crore for the sequel, as per Koimoi). And by the end of its extended 8-day first week, Sacnilk reported Jailer 2 had crossed Rs 606 crore worldwide — past the original Jailer's lifetime gross — with an 8-day India gross of Rs 391.55 crore. Sun Pictures itself posted that the sequel had the highest-grossing first week in Tamil cinema history, at over Rs 549 crore worldwide for the 7-day window, as quoted by OnlyKollywood. Note the two windows are different — 7 days versus 8 days — which is why the two totals do not match, and neither is wrong.

All sequel figures here are as of October 22-23, 2026, and the film is still in theatres, so they will keep moving. Do not treat any Jailer 2 number in this article as a final lifetime total.

What made Jailer work

Jailer was Nelson Dilipkumar's film built around a simple idea: Rajinikanth as a retired jailer drawn back into a fight, with a cast full of familiar faces from across Indian cinema. It was a Sun Pictures production, it released on August 10, 2023, and it played to packed houses in Tamil Nadu first and then everywhere else. The film's slow-burn first half and its action-heavy second half split opinion at first, but the box office never slowed down — and a Rs 200 crore budget against a Rs 600 crore-plus return is why the trade calls it an All-Time Blockbuster without arguing about it.

Verdict

If someone asks you how much Jailer earned, the safe answer is: around Rs 605 crore worldwide, with trackers ranging up to Rs 624 crore, on a budget of around Rs 200 crore. And if they ask why it matters now, the answer is Jailer 2 — the sequel has already passed the original's lifetime total inside its first week, and the franchise as a whole has crossed Rs 1,000 crore. The Tiger is still hunting.
