Udta Teer Box Office Collection Day 1: Ayushmann Khurrana Film Opens Below Rs 5 Crore Despite Good Reviews

By BollyShowbiz Desk • October 24, 2026 • Udta Teer, Ayushmann Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan, Box Office

Udta Teer box office collection day 1 is the story of a film the critics liked and the opening-day crowd mostly skipped. Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan's spy comedy, which released in theatres on Friday, October 23, 2026, opened below Rs 5 crore net in India — even though the reviews coming in were warm. Here are the day 1 numbers as the trade reported them, why the opening stayed low, and what day 2 needs to do to turn this around.

Day 1 numbers: two estimates, one honest picture

Let us start with the number everyone is quoting, and then the number that complicates it. As per Sacnilk's figures, reported by Filmibeat, Zoom, IWMBuzz and others, Udta Teer collected Rs 4.10 crore net in India on day 1. That is the lead figure. But Pinkvilla's own estimate puts day 1 lower, at around Rs 3.75 crore nett, a figure Glamsham repeats. So the fair way to state day 1 is: around Rs 4 crore net, with Sacnilk at Rs 4.10 crore and Pinkvilla at Rs 3.75 crore. Anyone giving you one exact figure without naming a source is picking a side in a tracker difference.

The rest of the day 1 picture is consistent across sources. India gross was Rs 4.82–4.83 crore — the tiny gap is just rounding between outlets — and worldwide gross was Rs 4.92 crore. The film played 6,265 shows on day 1, as per Sacnilk, though note that some outlets call this a screen count; the Sacnilk metric is shows, not screens. Occupancy for Hindi 2D was 15.65% overall, building through the day: 5.08% in the morning, 14.46% in the afternoon, 13.77% in the evening, and 25% at night. Day 1 footfall was 1,87,849 attendees. One outlet separately cites 13% occupancy, but that appears to use a different base, so we are not merging it into the 15.65% figure.

For context, day 1 did edge past the pair's previous film together, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, which opened at Rs 4 crore in 2025 — Filmibeat puts it as beating that mark "by a brim." IWMBuzz also notes this is Ayushmann's eighth biggest opening. Both of those are small comforts, though, because the headline number is still below Rs 5 crore.

Good reviews, low opening — why?

This is the interesting part of the Udta Teer story, because the film did not open low on bad word of mouth. Filmibeat says the film "did open to rave reviews from the audience and critics," and IWMBuzz says the same about critics and fans, praising its blend of comedy of errors, mistaken identities and patriotic themes. Critic Sumit Kadel gave the film 4 stars, calling it "one of the most unique, entertaining and intelligently written and directed films of 2026," and praised the first half and the final 20 minutes and climax, comparing them to Dhurandhar 2 and Drishyam, along with meta-references mocking the Pakistani Army and terrorists.

Audience reactions, as collected by Times of Bengal, were mixed but encouraging: praise for Ayushmann's comic timing, the situational humour, and Rahul Bose and Mukul Dev, with some viewers feeling the humour did not work consistently and others calling it a light-hearted family watch. Pinkvilla's explanation for the low opening is blunt and useful: it was not the trailers — the first trailer was good, the second felt "a bit too spoofy" — it was that "there was no initial value for the film." In plain words, people liked what they saw once they went, but not enough people felt they had to go on day 1. Morning shows trended toward Rs 3 crore before evening shows pushed the day toward Rs 4 crore, as per Pinkvilla and Glamsham.

The film itself is a spy comedy about Bilal Ahmed, a Pakistani agent who takes the identity of Vikrant Thapar to enter India's Counter Terrorism Squad. The supporting cast includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Gulshan Grover, Mukul Dev, Suhail Nayyar, Supriya Pilgaonkar, Brijendra Kala and Raghubir Yadav. It is also the second posthumous release for late actor Mukul Dev.

Day 2: what it needs, and what we actually know so far

Be careful with day 2 numbers today, because no final day 2 figure exists yet. What exists is a prediction and a live tracker, and they are not the same thing. The pre-day-2 prediction, from Filmibeat and Zoom, is around Rs 6 crore on day 2, which would take the total past Rs 10 crore, with an opening weekend possibly touching Rs 15 crore in India. Pinkvilla and Glamsham set the condition plainly: the film needs over Rs 6 crore on day 2 plus a good day 3 hold to have a chance, and it needs to sustain until Ramayana releases.

The live tracker from BoxOfficeIndia24, updated at 1 PM IST on October 24, had day 2 India gross so far at Rs 4.40 crore from 1.52 lakh tickets, trending toward around Rs 6.44 crore nett, with a range of Rs 6.12–6.76 crore. That projection moved through the day — Rs 6.38 crore at 11 AM, Rs 5.93 crore at noon, Rs 6.44 crore at 1 PM — which tells you how live these numbers are. Treat all of them as projections, not results. Day 2 overseas so far was Rs 22 lakh, led by Australia and New Zealand, with Maharashtra leading in India at Rs 1.15 crore and Delhi NCR the top city at Rs 1.06 crore.

Competition is not helping either. Udta Teer is sharing theatres with Prahaar – The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam, Nayyi Navelli, Drishyam 3: The Conclusion, Jailer 2, Tum Meri Ho and Tu Hai Meri Kiran, as per IWMBuzz. That is a crowded weekend for a film that needed a strong start.

Verdict

Day 1 below Rs 5 crore is a soft start, no matter how you frame it — but the reviews and the day 2 trend give Udta Teer a real second chance. If Saturday lands around Rs 6 crore as predicted and Sunday holds, the opening weekend near Rs 15 crore keeps the film alive. If day 2 slips below that, the good reviews will not be enough to save it. Watch the final day 2 number tonight; that is the number that decides this film's fate.
